Different methods for examining your eyes

The ophthalmologist has different kinds of methods for examining your eyes. We will recommend them as needed via our eye clinics in Marbella or Fuengirola.

Methods

Imaging the endothelium

A device to image the inner layer of the eye that is called the endothelium. This examination is used especially when a degenerative disease is suspected and before eye operations.

A Biometric Measurement

A biometric measurement where the curvature of the cornea and the length of the eye are measured and the values are used to calculate the power of the intraocular lens (IOL) for a cataract or presbyopic lens surgery.

Fundus photography

Photographs of the fundus of the eye are used to diagnose and check up under differing health conditions. For example the patient suffers from diabetes or age related macular degeneration. Also changes in the retina can be analysed.

A Perimetral Examination

A perimetral examination can be used to analyse and treat glaucoma or to exclude brain diseases and, for example, during a check up for driving license to verify that the patient does not have a defect in their field of vision that could affect driving thereby diminishing their safety.

A OCT Examination

A OCT examination gives 3D pictures of the retina helping to make an exact diagnosis of different eye diseases. Also the device can be used for examining the structure of neural tissue of the optic disc. OCT is maybe the best modern examination of the eye and can be compared to different types of magnetic or computer tomography examination.

Topographic Examination

Topographic examination gives us the shape and thickness of the cornea at various points. It is used with every patient to be treated with a laser and when suspecting a disease of cornea.

Automatic refractometry

Automatic refractometry devices give information about the refraction of the eye and the shape of the cornea. The information is automatically delivered to a foropter display that helps the ophthalmologist to examine the vision quickly and reliably. We use modern screens to examine the vision instead of projectors.

Argon laser

In addition to excimer laser to treat refractive errors Sol Eyes has an Argon laser to treat, for example, changes due to diabetes or degenerative holes or ruptures of retina. This laser can also be used to treat certain types of glaucoma.

YAG-laser

YAG-laser is used to treat a possible secondary cataract after an operation. The same laser can be used to during certain kinds of glaucoma treatments.

An Appointment

An appointment at Sol Eyes Fuengirola or Marbella consists of a checkup by an experienced specialist including for example:

  • Questioning about the health of patient, possible diseases and medications and possible eye diseases of close relatives.
  • Questioning about the history of vision, measurement of the previous eye glasses or documenting the values.
  • Examination of the subjective and objective refraction error and the possible need for treatment for presbyopia soon.
  • Measurement of the intra ocular pressure.
  • Examination of the cornea, the anterior chamber, the status of the lens, the vitreous and the retina. When needed we will use the dilating drops and lenses or mirrors to examine the interior of the eye.
  • When needed a prescription for eye glasses is made.
